Vinnytsia is preparing to test a new organization of traffic on Soborna Street. The project aims to create separate corridors for public transport, more convenient transfers, changes at intersections, and tram priority at traffic lights. All innovations will initially be tested without large-scale reconstruction. This was reported by the Vinnytsia City Council.

The concept was presented by the team of the project "Improving the mobility of public transport". Its main goal is to make public transport trips faster and city movement safer and more convenient.

One of the key decisions will be to change the location of stops. In the Independence Square and near the church, the stops for trams, trolleybuses, and buses are planned to be placed as close to each other as possible to make it easier for passengers to transfer between routes.

Also on Soborna and the Central Bridge from the Heroes of Chernobyl Square, tram tracks will be separated by special road markings. Separate lanes for buses and trolleybuses are planned to be arranged on the section from Theatre Street to Ovodova Street.

Another part of the project concerns the organization of traffic at intersections.

On the segment from Khlibna Street to Knyaziv Koriatovychiv Street, certain turns for cars that currently create delays for trams are planned to be limited.

In addition, trams will be given priority when passing traffic lights. This system is already being tested at Kalichanska Square and is planned to be expanded to other sections of the route in the future.

The city council emphasizes that all changes will initially operate in test mode. For this, only road markings, new signs, and modified traffic light operations will be used without capital construction works.

After the tests are completed, specialists will assess how the new scheme affected the speed of public transport, pedestrian safety, and intersection capacity. Vinnytsia is implementing the project together with its German sister city Karlsruhe under the NAKOPA program.

Recall that on May 28 at 10:00 PM at the stop of the Ninth Microdistrict, an incident occurred where a man and a woman attacked the tram driver.
