Large Buses Now Allowed to Cross Border via Diakivtsi Checkpoint
Crossing the Diakivtsi–Rakovets Border Point
According to Міністерство інфраструктури: Until the end of summer, large-capacity buses will be permitted to pass through the Diakivtsi–Rakovets checkpoint. This development follows negotiations between Ukraine’s Deputy Infrastructure Minister Serhiy Derkach and Romania’s State Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure Ionel Scriștianu. For English-speaking readers, this checkpoint serves as a key land border crossing between western Ukraine and northeastern Romania.
Under the agreement, carriers planning to depart Ukraine must register in the eCherha queue system. Derkach noted that this arrangement speeds up border crossings for passengers and eases pressure on other checkpoints. He added that while the decision is currently temporary, ongoing discussions with Romanian officials aim to make bus traffic through Diakivtsi permanent.
Why This New Route Matters
Opening this route for large buses at the Diakivtsi–Rakovets border point is a significant step toward improving connectivity between Ukraine and Romania. It has the potential to boost tourism and business exchanges between the two countries, while also reducing congestion at other crossing points.
Further talks could lead to a stable, long-term operation of the route, substantially easing travel for both Ukrainian and Romanian citizens.
As border crossings evolve, similar adjustments are being made in other areas. For instance, bus routes between Ukraine and Poland have been rerouted due to ongoing repairs at the Shehyni checkpoint. This highlights a broader trend of infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing travel efficiency and connectivity in the region.
