Forest Land Restored to State Ownership

According to Главком: More than two decades after being illegally taken, 10 hectares of forestry land in the Obukhiv district of the Kyiv region have been returned to the state. These plots were unlawfully removed from state control in 2004 by officials from the Kyiv Regional State Administration and the Obukhiv District State Administration, without the required approval from Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers. The land had been used by companies tied to former lawmaker Viktor Medvedchuk.

At the time of the 2004 land grab, Medvedchuk served as head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, suggesting he may have leveraged his position to facilitate the illegal transfer. The state's ownership rights were officially reinstated on June 3, 2026. This recovery is part of a broader effort to reclaim state assets that were unlawfully appropriated.

Ongoing Efforts to Recover State Land

In January 2026, the state also regained control of a neighboring 24-hectare forest plot owned by a company linked to Medvedchuk's wife. Then, in March 2026, prosecutors secured the return of an additional 9.5 hectares of forest within the Tsybli community in the Boryspil district. These lands had long been used by private firms associated with Viktor Medvedchuk and Oleksandr Klymenko, a former tax minister under Yanukovych.

These cases highlight a systematic push to recover state lands that were stripped from public ownership during previous administrations. Adding another layer to this story, a Russian company whose founder is a firm owned by Medvedchuk's wife holds four land plots and a house in an elite cottage settlement on Rublyovka, near Moscow. That property is registered to the Russian firm 'Almirida Investments,' which has owned AO 'Renaissance' since February 2026. The owner of that entity is former Ukrainian TV host Oksana Marchenko.

The general director of 'Almirida Investments' is 21-year-old Daria Marchenko, the daughter of Viktor Medvedchuk and goddaughter of Vladimir Putin.

In this way, the return of forestry land in the Obukhiv district marks a significant step in restoring state rights and combating illegal land use in Ukraine.

These developments reflect the state's ongoing efforts to recover assets that were removed from public ownership, potentially setting a precedent for future land reform and anti-corruption measures.
