EU countries boycott Eurovision-2026 due to Israel's participation
Spain, Ireland, and the Netherlands have decided not to participate in Eurovision-2026 due to Israel's involvement in the contest, despite calls from some broadcasters to exclude the country. This information is reported by The Guardian.
The Spanish broadcaster RTVE has refused to participate in the contest's broadcast and semifinals, describing the process of excluding Israel as 'insufficient' and unfair. Additionally, the Dutch company Avrotros has also refused to participate, citing the situation as incompatible with their values.
Countries express dissatisfaction with the potential participation of Israel in the contest and threaten to boycott. After Israel took first place in the previous Eurovision, there are questions about the fairness of the voting and possible manipulation of the rules.
'The overwhelming majority of members agreed that there is no need for further voting on participation and that the song contest 'Eurovision-2026' should take place as planned, with additional safeguards,' the statement reads.
The European Broadcasting Union has announced changes to the voting system in the Eurovision contest aimed at strengthening trust and transparency to engage a larger audience.
The refusal of countries to participate in the contest indicates serious problems in conducting the event and shows determination and principledness in defending their values.
