G7 Acknowledges Russia Is Not Winning the War
Key Outcomes of the G7 Leaders' Talks
According to ХВИЛЯ: Volodymyr Zelenskyy has summarized the results of his discussions with G7 leaders held in France. During the meeting, the G7 acknowledged that Russia is not winning the war. Ukraine's priorities have been identified as:
- increasing the supply of air defense missiles;
- granting licenses for their domestic production;
- a winter support package;
- intensifying pressure on Russia.
All G7 nations expressed their support for Ukraine and condemned strikes on civilian targets, including the one on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.
Negotiations and Military Assistance
Zelenskyy discussed with Donald Trump the possibility of transferring licenses for local production of Patriot system missiles. The president also announced a major drone deal with Canada. Zelenskyy recently met with Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, during which he proposed that Putin join the talks on the sidelines of the G7. However, the Kremlin rejected this offer. Zelenskyy insists on holding negotiations before winter in a third country-such as Switzerland, Turkey, the United States, or a Middle Eastern nation-ruling out the possibility of a meeting in Moscow.
During the meeting, Zelenskyy stressed the importance of preparing for winter, stating:
“That was a terrible winter for us. Of course, we do not want to go through another one like it. And Russia must know that this year, they too will not have an easy winter.”
He also emphasized that without an agreement, Russia would find a way to block Ukraine's path to EU membership, because 'they do not want to see us succeed.'
On the front lines, Ukrainian defense forces have managed to liberate 100 square kilometers of territory over the past month. Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz voiced his support for Ukraine. Kyiv is also counting on an accelerated path to EU membership, while G7 countries see no delays in the negotiation process.
France announced its intention to rebuild the sarcophagus over the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which was damaged by a Russian strike. Switzerland, together with Ukrainian experts, will work on restoring the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.
The G7 talks marked a significant milestone in international support for Ukraine, demonstrating unity among allied nations in countering Russian aggression. The focus on ramping up military aid and preparing for winter challenges underscores the gravity of the situation in Ukraine and the need for continued backing from the global community. At the same time, Zelenskyy's calls for peace negotiations may reflect a desire to find diplomatic solutions to the conflict, despite ongoing military operations.
As discussions at the G7 summit continue to unfold, Zelenskyy's arrival for ceasefire talks highlights the urgency of diplomatic efforts in light of the ongoing conflict. The stakes are high, with winter approaching and both sides preparing for the challenges ahead. This context underlines the importance of international support for Ukraine as it navigates these complex negotiations.
