Ukraine's Intelligence Agency Reports Nigerian Mercenary Fatalities Fighting for Russia
Foreign Mercenaries from Nigeria Killed in Action
According to Главком: Ukraine's Defence Intelligence Directorate (GUR) has released details concerning the deaths of foreign mercenaries from Nigeria who were serving with the Russian Armed Forces. The two Nigerian nationals were killed in late November during an attempted assault on Ukrainian positions. They were found dead in the Luhansk region before they could engage in direct combat. This incident highlights the Kremlin's ongoing recruitment of foreign fighters to bolster its forces in Ukraine.
Details of the Deceased Mercenaries
Both deceased individuals served in the 423rd Guards Motor Rifle Regiment (military unit 91701) of Russia's 4th Kantemirovskaya Tank Division. One of the men, Khamzat Kazim Kalavole, was born on April 3, 1983, and signed his contract on August 29, 2025. He is survived by a wife and three children. The other, Mbah Stephen Udoka, was born on January 7, 1988, and signed his contract on September 28, 2025.
According to the report, the mercenary group was eliminated by a precise strike from a Ukrainian drone. The GUR emphasized that traveling to Russia to fight presents a real chance of being placed in a suicidal assault unit and ultimately dying on Ukrainian soil. In a related disclosure, the agency also published data on 21 Russian enterprises involved in the development and production of unmanned systems, underscoring the scale of foreign involvement in the conflict.
This information points to the active participation of foreign mercenaries in the Ukraine conflict, highlighting the war's global dimensions and the involvement of personnel from various nations in the hostilities.
The deaths of the Nigerian mercenaries may prompt further discussion on the issue of international private military contractors and their impact on the course of military operations in Ukraine.
