Ireland to increase payments to refugees to €10,000: who will receive the money
Ireland plans to increase payments for asylum seekers who decide to voluntarily leave the country. Minister of Justice Jim O'Callaghan together with Minister of Finance Paschal Donohoe supports the idea of raising the aid amounts - up to €2,500 for individuals and up to €10,000 for families.
Paschal Donohoe noted that this will make deportations more effective, contribute to an organized migration system, and support an open economy which is a key factor for growth. The costs of maintaining Ukrainian refugees in Ireland in 2020 amounted to nearly €2 billion. However, the housing assistance for Ukrainians has been reduced from €800 to €600 per month, noted the Ukrainian ambassador Larysa Gerasymko.
The Irish government is actively working to improve conditions for asylum seekers, hoping to make the migration system more transparent and effective.
