Spain Tests Solar Power at Sea

According to НВ — Техно: In May, Spain began testing a new solar energy technology designed for the open ocean. A structure named Paiporta was launched at the San Enrique shipyard using large cranes. The platform will be towed to Valencia for offshore verification. Known as PV-bos, the technology is specifically built for marine and port environments and has already caught the attention of energy sector experts.

Over the next few weeks, engineers at the San Enrique shipyard will complete commissioning work-a critical phase for the project. Shipyard CEO José Luis Torres commented:

'The launch of the PV-bos system represents a milestone of immense importance, not only for the San Enrique shipyard but also for the maritime and energy industries as a whole.' - José Luis Torres

Institutional Backing

The initiative has received support from several organizations, including:

  • The Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving
  • SOERMAR
  • Astilleros San Enrique

Bernardino Counago, co-founder and CEO of BlueNewables, emphasized:

'The launch of the Paiporta platform has positioned BlueNewables among the global leaders in floating offshore solar energy. It also showcases the industrial and technological potential that exists in Galicia and Spain to promote innovative energy solutions on the international stage.' - Bernardino Counago

This project marks a significant step forward for renewable energy in Spain, as the country seeks to reduce its reliance on traditional power sources. If the platform tests succeed, they could pave the way for greater investment in technologies that harness marine resources, especially amid rising global demand for clean energy. As the world pushes toward sustainable development, initiatives like Paiporta may reshape the energy landscape not only in Spain but across the globe.

As Spain continues to innovate in renewable energy, the recent testing of a 42-meter wave energy generator known as the MARMOK-A-5 highlights the country's commitment to harnessing marine resources. This initiative complements the ongoing solar energy trials, showcasing Spain's multifaceted approach to sustainable energy solutions.
