Over Five Years, Kyiv's Transit Operator Acquired 128 New Buses, Trams, and Trolleybuses

New buses, trams, and trolleybuses in Kyivpastrans
Протягом останніх п'яти років у Києві закупили 128 нових автобусів, трамваїв та тролейбусів для покращення міського транспорту.

Kyivpastrans Modernizes Its Fleet

According to Главком: From 2022 to 2026, the municipal enterprise Kyivpastrans carried out a large-scale renewal of its rolling stock, adding new buses, trams, and trolleybuses. This upgrade was financed through loans from the European Investment Bank (EIB). As part of the program, 85 low-floor Isuzu Citiport 12 buses, manufactured in Turkey, were purchased for a total of €18.6 million.

Additionally, 19 low-floor K1T306 trams produced by Tatra-Yug were acquired with EIB credit at a cost of €24.9 million. Deliveries of these trams occurred throughout 2022 and 2023. In 2025, Kyivpastrans bought another eight K1T306 trams using budget funds, spending 768.9 million Ukrainian hryvnias from the city budget.

Outlook and Fare Adjustments

At the start of 2026, a contract was signed for the supply of 16 PTS T12309 trolleybuses, with the procurement costing 303.5 million hryvnias. Half of these new trolleybuses are already operating on city routes. In light of the fleet renewal, a fare increase to 30 hryvnias per trip is planned. This fare is calculated based on 2025 expenses. The date for the fare hike has not yet been finalized, though it was originally slated to take effect on July 15.

As stated by the KMDA Department of Transport Infrastructure, 'the new fare should still be 30 hryvnias per trip.'

Thus, the modernization of Kyiv's public transport continues, largely supported by international loans, which helps improve the quality of passenger services in the capital.

This fleet renewal by Kyivpastrans marks a significant step in upgrading urban transit, aimed at enhancing passenger comfort and safety. The introduction of new buses, trams, and trolleybuses not only improves transportation conditions but may also help reduce the city's environmental footprint. The planned fare increase reflects the costs of maintaining and servicing these new vehicles, a topic likely to spark discussion among public transport users in the capital.

As Kyiv continues its commitment to enhancing public transportation, recent developments show that the city has introduced a new batch of buses and trolleybuses to the streets. This initiative aligns with the ongoing fleet modernization efforts by Kyivpastrans, aiming to improve service quality and reduce environmental impact. Such upgrades are essential as the city adapts to the growing demands of urban mobility.
