The situation with the chikungunya virus in China

In China, due to the outbreak of the chikungunya virus, which is spread by mosquitoes, the same preventive measures are being applied as during the Covid-19 pandemic. This was reported by The Independent.

This virus can lead to a fever of up to 40 degrees, headaches, nausea, and pain in muscles and joints. National protocols are being used to combat the outbreak. According to The Independent:

Authorities have adopted strict preventive measures similar to those implemented during the Covid pandemic, including extensive disinfection spraying.

Residents of China have also been instructed to eliminate standing water in their homes, as mosquitoes can breed in it. A fine of up to 10,000 yuan is provided for violating this rule.

Chikungunya is transmitted through the bites of infected mosquitoes, and symptoms typically appear within 3-7 days. Among them are fever and severe joint pain. In severe cases, pain can last for years. This disease is especially dangerous for the elderly, infants, and individuals with chronic conditions such as diabetes or heart diseases. Previously, infections have been recorded in 12 cities in the Chinese province, starting from Hong Kong.

We remind you that 300,000 doses of BCG vaccine for tuberculosis have arrived in Ukraine for vaccinations for children according to the National vaccination calendar.

The ongoing battle against viruses and infectious diseases requires joint efforts and responsibility from both authorities and medical institutions as well as us, ordinary citizens. The introduction of preventive measures and increased awareness of how infections are transmitted can help prevent the spread of viruses and protect public health.
