One hundred dollars in October 2025 in Ukraine translates to 4175 hryvnias — this is how much, according to the official NBU exchange rate, a 'hundred' of American currency costs. Journalists conducted an experiment and checked which food products can actually be bought for this amount. This is reported by UNIAN.

What Share of the Basket is Made Up of Meat, Fish, and Dairy Products

It turned out that an average grocery basket for $100 includes about 40 of the most popular items. The authors divided expenses by categories. The most money was spent on meat — 1047 UAH. Fish cost 154 UAH, while dairy products (milk, sour cream, cheese, butter) took another 475 UAH from the budget. Overall, they accounted for 40% of the entire basket.

What Else Was Included in the Grocery Basket for $100

For side dishes, cereals were bought: buckwheat for 47 UAH, pasta — 48 UAH, rice — 50 UAH. There were also salt, spices, and grocery items. The basket also included the following items:

  • salt – 13.99 UAH;

  • ground pepper – 19 UAH;

  • bay leaf – 11 UAH;

  • sugar – 28 UAH;

  • unrefined oil – 87 UAH;

  • wheat flour – 33.26 UAH;

  • eggs – 92.99 UAH;

  • tomatoes – 57 UAH;

  • greenhouse cucumbers – 79 UAH;

  • white potatoes – 14 UAH;

  • onions – 8 UAH.

  • beets – 7 UAH;

  • carrots – 10 UAH;

  • cabbage – 11 UAH;

  • garlic – 24 UAH;

  • tomato paste – 14.99 UAH;

  • Bell pepper Biłoczerka – 49 UAH;

  • bananas – 64 UAH;

  • Ukrainian apples for 32 UAH;

  • pears – 45 UAH.

  • «Kyiv» cake – 364 UAH;

  • waffles – 99 UAH.

  • green tea – 56 UAH;

  • black tea – 99.99 UAH;

  • ground coffee – 659 UAH;

  • bread – 31 UAH.

According to calculations, $100 is enough for a basic food set for one family, but without stocks and delicacies. The majority of the budget is consumed by meat, coffee, and sweets.

Analysts note that the current amount of the grocery basket is practically equal to or even exceeds the average pension in Ukraine. This clearly demonstrates how much everyday life for Ukrainians has become more expensive against the backdrop of rising currency exchange rates and food prices.

Earlier we reported that eggs and meat rose in price by 50%. At the same time, vegetables are experiencing a slight decline in price.
