The ticket to Ukraine is bought by themselves. The commander of the International Legion spoke about the specifics of recruiting foreigners
According to glavcom.ua: Foreign volunteers, as an important resource for the Ukrainian army, require centralized recruiting through the Ministry of Defense. Currently, brigades can independently recruit foreigners, but this process leads to a number of problems, including the need to buy tickets to Ukraine at their own expense.
According to the commander of the Second International Legion, Alexander Yakimovich, candidates submit applications on the battalion or Fourth Legion website, then undergo interviews and, if necessary, are directed to the Ukrainian Legion, which organizes their arrival, paperwork, and training.
Currently, foreigners wishing to join the Ukrainian army pay for their tickets to Ukraine themselves. However, there are instances where out of a hundred tickets, only one fighter arrives, and the funds for this come from volunteer contributions.
As Yakimovich reported, foreign fighters receive the same financial support as their Ukrainian colleagues, amounting to 100 thousand hryvnias per month on the front line along with additional payments. The battalion has been working with foreigners for three years, implementing its own operational mechanisms that take into account the specifics of each group, including dietary requirements.
"There are specifics here, including details, for example, dietary requirements. Colombians need more rice," explained one of the fighters.
It is worth noting that there are four international battalions operating in the Land Forces, particularly the Fourth, where foreigners undergo basic combat training for 45 days, after which they receive training in the battalion.
Foreign volunteers are becoming an important resource for the Ukrainian army; however, centralized recruiting through the Ministry of Defense must solve the problem of purchasing tickets to Ukraine at their own expense. Military units work with foreigners, providing them with equal financial support and considering their individual needs during service.
