Belarus Has Been Developing AI for 60 Years, Claims Lukashenko, While Signaling Readiness for Talks
Belarusian Achievements in Artificial Intelligence
According to Главком: At the Eurasian Economic Forum in Kazakhstan, self-proclaimed Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko touted his country's progress in artificial intelligence, emphasizing that these technologies have been under development in Belarus for more than six decades. He stressed that Belarus has no intention of replicating Western digital regulations, instead pursuing its own technological path. Lukashenko framed AI not as an end in itself, but as a practical tool designed to boost economic efficiency and improve citizens' quality of life.
He also highlighted the integration of neural networks into agriculture and industry. According to him, AI systems are already autonomously milking cows on farms, while neural network technologies are being deployed to operate BelAZ mining dump trucks and tractors. Modern algorithms are also assisting Belarusian doctors with diagnostics and treatment.

Labor Market Challenges and Security Concerns
Lukashenko also voiced concerns about the labor market, pointing to a serious crisis and an acute shortage of rural workers. He remarked:

Separately, Lukashenko stated that Minsk has no plans to enter a war against Ukraine unless provoked, and expressed readiness for negotiations with President Zelenskyy, leaving open the possibility of a meeting on Ukrainian soil.
On the security front, Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi noted that intelligence reports regarding a potential offensive from Belarusian territory are entirely credible. The news of Lukashenko's speech was disseminated by the publication Glavcom, citing Belarusian media outlets.
Lukashenko's remarks underscore Belarus's ambition to build its own technological infrastructure amid external challenges and economic difficulties. However, security and regional instability remain pressing concerns, especially given the potential threat Belarus poses to Ukraine, a situation that continues to worry military experts.
As Belarus navigates its technological advancements, the geopolitical landscape remains complex. Recent warnings from Ukrainian President Zelenskyy indicate that Russia is exerting pressure on Lukashenko to initiate further military actions from Belarusian territory. Understanding the implications of these developments is crucial for grasping the broader context of the region's security dynamics.
