Joint Statement from UN Member States

According to Главком: A coalition of nearly 50 United Nations member states has issued a joint declaration condemning Russia’s missile attacks on Kyiv and its intimidation of foreign diplomatic missions. The document, backed by European Union nations, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea, calls on Moscow to immediately halt hostilities and withdraw all military forces from Ukrainian territory as defined by its internationally recognized borders.

Demands for Russia and Humanitarian Steps

The statement urges an immediate, comprehensive, and unconditional ceasefire. It also highlights the urgent need for concrete humanitarian actions, including:

  • a full exchange of prisoners of war,
  • the release of all individuals being held unlawfully,
  • and the safe return of all internees and civilians who have been forcibly displaced or deported, among them thousands of Ukrainian children.

Signatories further demand that Russia cease combat operations and remove all its troops and military equipment from Ukraine.

The White House declined to endorse the document, confirming that the United States chose not to join the collective statement. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha expressed gratitude to the participating UN member states for their solidarity. He also commended the foreign diplomats based in Kyiv who refused to bow to Russian ultimatums.

'The credibility and effectiveness of any effort to uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter will depend directly on the international community’s ability to stop Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.' Andrii Sybiha

UN Secretary-General António Guterres responded to the Kremlin’s announced plans for strikes on Kyiv. He referenced a Ukrainian drone attack on a building in occupied Starobilsk in the Luhansk region, noting that the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had identified it as a strike against a command post of the Russian Rubicon unit. Meanwhile, Russia’s Foreign Ministry warned of a campaign of systematic strikes against Ukraine’s defense-industrial facilities in Kyiv.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Kremlin is attempting to use intimidation tactics to pressure the United States and international partners. This joint statement from nearly 50 UN countries reflects growing global support for Ukraine in its resistance to Russian aggression. The demands for a ceasefire and troop withdrawal underscore the severity of the situation and the need for collective action to resolve the conflict. Such moves by the international community could prove pivotal in strengthening regional security and protecting human rights, particularly amid the humanitarian crises triggered by the war.
