Marchenko calls on G7: 90 billion euros in aid is not enough, a 'reparations loan' is needed
Call for the creation of a reparations loan
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko called on G7 countries to create a 'reparations loan', emphasizing the inadequacy of the current financial aid of 90 billion euros. According to Marchenko, funding should be secured against future reparations from Russia, allowing Ukraine's financial stability to be strengthened in times of war. He also noted that this is a systemic solution that should ensure a fair peace for many years.
The necessity of international financial support
Marchenko emphasized that 60% of Ukraine's entire budget is allocated for defense and security, indicating the critical need for international financial support for the existence of the state. He also mentioned that the risks for Europe from a possible Ukrainian defeat significantly outweigh the risks of implementing a reparations mechanism. Additionally, the minister assured that funding from external sources for 2025 is already fully guaranteed.
Thus, Serhiy Marchenko draws attention to the importance of creating new funding mechanisms that would support Ukraine in the ongoing war and ensure the stability of the country's financial system. The idea of a 'reparations loan' could be an important step towards attracting the necessary resources for Ukraine's recovery, as well as highlighting the global responsibility of G7 countries in the context of supporting Ukraine in its struggle for sovereignty. At the same time, the effective implementation of such initiatives will require close cooperation between states and international financial institutions.
