Economist Ustenko: The Pension System of Ukraine is Already Non-Viable

Expert's warning about the collapse of the pension system
Економіст Устенко: України чекає складний шлях щодо реформування пенсійної системи.

The pension system of Ukraine requires radical changes due to the aging of the nation and active emigration. Experts warn that without reforms, there will simply be no one to pay pensions.

'If there were no war... we should achieve a birth rate figure at least twice as high. Not 120-125 thousand, but let's say about 250 thousand,' noted economist Oleg Ustenko.

Such pessimistic data is supported by various studies. Demographers warn that the concept of simple population reproduction in Ukraine is becoming increasingly utopian due to the catastrophic decline in birth rates and the growth in the number of pensioners.

Changes in the Demographic Structure

The increase in the number of elderly people disrupts the balance in the demographic structure of the country. The share of young people is gradually decreasing, worsening the situation with population reproduction.

'The share of people over 65 is increasing, with a corresponding decrease in the number of young people,' emphasized the economist.

Prospects for the Pension System

The problem of pension fund deficit in Ukraine has existed for many years, but it is now acquiring a particularly acute character due to the demographic crisis and other negative trends. Experts call for immediate reforms in social and economic policy to avoid collapse.

It is well known that the pension system of Ukraine needs serious changes due to demographic challenges, particularly the aging population and declining birth rates. These problems create a serious imbalance in the social security system, requiring radical measures to ensure stability in the future.
