Ukraine's Minimum Wage to Stay at 8,647 Hryvnias Through 2026
Ukraine's Minimum Wage from January 1, 2026
According to ХВИЛЯ: Starting January 1, 2026, the minimum wage in Ukraine will be set at 8,647 hryvnias. This amount is scheduled to remain fixed for the following 12 months, with no change planned from March 1, 2026 onward. The corresponding hourly minimum wage rate will be 52 hryvnias. This represents an increase of 647 hryvnias compared to the previous level of 8,000 hryvnias, which had been in effect and unchanged since April 1, 2024.
The State Budget Law stipulates that this set amount will be in force for the entire year without further adjustments. While earlier legislative drafts proposed a gradual increase of the minimum wage to 9,100, 10,100, or even 11,184 hryvnias, these plans were not implemented. It is important to note that the minimum wage figure is a key benchmark used to calculate numerous social benefits, taxes, and sick pay, making it a relevant factor for many Ukrainian citizens. This policy comes amid ongoing economic challenges following Russia's full-scale invasion.
Economic Context and Social Impact
The approval of the new minimum wage at 8,647 hryvnias reflects Ukraine's current economic situation and the government's effort to support living standards amid inflationary pressures. However, despite this modest increase, many experts argue that this level remains insufficient to cover citizens' basic needs, keeping the debate over a future wage hike open in both public and political circles.
