Three-Stage Emergency Power Cuts Introduced in Sumy Region
Emergency Power Rotation Plans Deployed in Sumy
According to Главком: Authorities have implemented a three-stage emergency power outage schedule across parts of Sumy Oblast. The decision, announced by regional utility provider Sumyoblenergo, was driven by mounting strain on the energy grid resulting from Russia's armed aggression and rising temperatures.
Under the special emergency schedules, outages are executed by cutting power to 35–110 kV lines, transformers, and busbar sections at substations operating at corresponding voltage levels. These measures are activated and deactivated solely on orders from Ukraine's national grid operator, Ukrenergo. Crucially, consumers cannot be given advance notice about how long blackouts will last, making it extremely difficult to plan electricity usage.
Power Supply Crisis Worsens
As of the morning of June 30, roughly 600 settlements across eight Ukrainian regions were without electricity. The outages that day were primarily triggered by severe weather from the previous 24 hours, including thunderstorms and squalls. The day before, on June 29, Kyiv and the surrounding region had also warned of possible weather-related blackouts. Across all of Ukraine on June 30, scheduled power cuts remained in effect.
Energy workers state: 'We are doing everything possible to stabilize the power system! The difficult electricity situation is a direct consequence of Russia's armed aggression and rising air temperatures!'
The introduction of emergency power outage schedules in Sumy is part of a broader response to Ukraine's challenging energy landscape, shaped by both external and internal pressures. Russia's military aggression, compounded by extreme weather, continues to threaten grid stability, forcing energy companies to remain agile and react swiftly to shifts in both supply and demand.
