Giant catfish caught in the river in Vinnytsia region: the size is impressive

"In the city of Bershad, Vinnytsia region, a fisherman was lucky to catch a giant catfish in the river Dokhna," the agency reported.

Fish the size of an adult human

The size of the fish is comparable to the height of an adult, making the catch one of the largest in the region in recent times.

It is worth noting that in Lviv region, a fisherman caught real giants - sturgeons weighing up to 30 kg. The catch was made in a closed-type sport lake, which can only be accessed with a special recommendation. Over two days, the fishermen caught two carp and five sturgeons, each weighing from 25 to 30 kg.

Changes in Ukraine's water bodies

Ichthyologist Yulia Kutsokon from the NAS of Ukraine commented to "Glavkom" that the artificial alteration of rivers in the 20th century, particularly the construction of dams, creation of ponds, and reservoirs, has significantly changed the living conditions of freshwater fish in Ukraine. Indigenous species, like golden crucian carp, are losing their habitats and disappearing. At the same time, resilient invasive fish such as the topmouth gudgeon and Amur sleeper start to dominate in the waters.

A rare event occurred in the fishing community of Bershad, Vinnytsia region - a giant catfish managed to get caught in the fishermen's net.
