Mother in Volyn Region Faces Charges for Selling Her 6-Year-Old Son for $25,000
Pre-Trial Investigation Concluded
According to Главком: A 38-year-old woman in Ukraine's Volyn region has been charged with human trafficking after allegedly selling her own six-year-old son. The mother, who has a prior criminal record for theft, lived with the boy following her divorce, while her two older children-aged 13 and 16-stayed with their father. In March 2026, she reportedly found a buyer for her youngest child and agreed to a price of $25,000.
Child Handover and Legal Aftermath
The transaction took place on April 17, 2026, in the city of Lutsk, under the watch of law enforcement as part of a targeted operation. According to the Prosecutor General's Office,
“the man who was offered the opportunity to purchase the child contacted the authorities.”
Immediately after receiving the payment, the woman was arrested. She is now charged under Article 149, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which addresses human trafficking involving a minor. The suspect remains in custody, and the boy has been placed in the care of his father.
This case highlights the ongoing issue of human trafficking in Ukraine, particularly the exploitation of minors. The swift intervention by law enforcement and the execution of a controlled operation demonstrate the state's commitment to combating such crimes. Public awareness of these incidents is crucial, as they can have lasting effects on the well-being of affected children and their families.
This alarming incident in Volyn is not an isolated case, as similar reports have surfaced across Ukraine.
