Forced disappearances: who becomes victims of the occupiers in Crimea
According to hvylya.net: In Crimea, people with a pro-Ukrainian position have become victims of forced disappearance. According to Alexey Tilyenenko from 'CrimeaSOS', most of those found dead after disappearance openly supported Ukraine and were ready to resist the Russian occupation.
'As for some of the people who were forcibly disappeared, the occupiers initiated criminal cases based on fabricated charges, and thus these people became political prisoners. But not everyone was fortunate enough to reach trial - sometimes their lives were cut short without any investigation. This can be considered extrajudicial killing,' emphasized Tilyenenko.
Motives and new cases of disappearances in occupied Crimea
During the invasion of Crimea, 44 cases of forced disappearance were recorded with the aim of suppressing any resistance. After 2022, new motives began to emerge: economic and informational. The disappearance of entrepreneurs for ransom and leaders of public opinion for propaganda became common practices of the occupiers, among whom were innocent children.
