According to glavcom.ua: Language expert Olga Vasilieva explained how to better refer to people aged 60 and older. It is no longer advisable to use expressions like 'old people', 'elderly people' or 'senior citizens', as they are considered inappropriate. According to the specialist, the only proper expression is 'older individuals'.

«As for naming people aged 60 and older, there are some nuances. In fact, all the usual expressions are now considered incorrect (according to the principles of inclusion and non-discrimination). The term 'old people' can only be used in literary works, as the word 'old' may offend some individuals who do not identify themselves that way, and 'grandmother', 'grandfather' can only be used in a family context», - she explained.

The expert also recommends avoiding the term 'people of solid age', as respect should not depend on a person's age. At the same time, she noted that the expression 'third age people' is quite popular in the West, but Ukrainians have not yet adopted it in spoken language.

The Ukrainian linguist recommends using the term 'older individuals', avoiding outdated and inadequate expressions to refer to people aged 60 and older.
