Overnight Strike on Kyiv Region Damages Kindergarten and Residential Buildings
Attack on Kyiv Region
According to Главком: In the early hours of May 12, Russian forces targeted populated areas in the Kyiv region, striking residential buildings and educational facilities. In the Fastiv district, a kindergarten sustained roof damage and caught fire, while a four-story apartment building had its windows blown out. Two private homes were also affected. Fortunately, no civilian casualties were reported.
This assault followed a separate incident earlier that same night, when Russian drones struck Kyiv. Debris from one drone landed on the roof of a 16-story building in the Obolon district, where residents managed to extinguish the resulting fire themselves. Additionally, on the evening of May 11, a drone hit the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv, a densely populated residential area, striking the roof of a multi-story apartment building.
Statements of Support
Mykola Kalashnyk, a local official, voiced support for those affected: 'We will not leave people to face this hardship alone. Everyone whose property was damaged will receive the necessary assistance and support to restore their homes. I am grateful to everyone who stands guard over the Kyiv region every night and helps people in the aftermath of attacks.'
These events underscore the ongoing threat to civilians in Ukraine, as attacks on residential neighborhoods and social infrastructure continue. Authorities are working to provide aid to victims, but the realities of war demand constant readiness for new challenges. The situation highlights the urgent need for international attention and assistance to ensure safety in the region.
These recent attacks are part of a troubling pattern, as evidenced by a separate incident where a nighttime assault in Kyiv resulted in four fatalities, including a child, and left dozens injured.
