New Year products in Ukraine will become more expensive: how much prices for vegetables and alcohol will rise
Forecast of price increase for food products in Ukraine
Before the New Year and Christmas holidays, an increase in food prices is forecasted in Ukraine, especially for vegetables and alcoholic beverages, in December 2025. According to economic forecasts, prices for key vegetables, including potatoes, beets, carrots, and onions, may increase by 2-5%. At the same time, prices for bell peppers, cucumbers, and tomatoes may rise by up to 15%.
As for alcoholic beverages, champagne and sparkling wines may become more expensive by 10-20 hryvnias per bottle. Whiskey, in turn, is expected to rise in price by 10-15%. The increase in prices for alcoholic beverages corresponds to the overall increase in demand in December and January, which are the most profitable months for alcohol producers.
Changes in food prices
According to the data, food products in October 2023 became 1.7% more expensive compared to September. This increase was associated with rising prices for vegetables (by 10.4%), as well as for eggs (by 11%) and milk (by 3.8%). At the same time, prices for onions decreased by 16.8%, white cabbage by 10.2%, carrots by 4.6%, and beets by 0.7%. Potatoes became cheaper by 6.0%, and fruits and sugar decreased in price by 2.6%.
Noted expert Volodymyr Chizh pointed out that basic vegetables for making borscht will remain relatively affordable due to large growing volumes.
At the same time, Lilia Bystrytska pointed out that December and January are the most profitable months for alcohol producers due to increased consumer demand. Therefore, consumers should expect a rise in prices for New Year products.
The expected increase in food prices in Ukraine reflects general market trends, where seasonal demand for key products, particularly vegetables and alcohol, traditionally rises before the holidays.
Consumers should consider this information when planning purchases, as the price increase may affect household budgets. The situation with prices also emphasizes the importance of monitoring the agricultural sector, which can impact the availability and cost of basic food products in Ukraine.
