Actress Olga Sumska Launches Her Own Clothing Line RIDNA
The RIDNA Brand and Its Vision
According to РБК-Україна — Lite: In 2020, Ukrainian actress Olga Sumska founded the clothing brand RIDNA, though its development has been paused due to the ongoing war. A key source of inspiration for the label comes from the works of Ukrainian painter Kateryna Bilokur. Although RIDNA is not currently profitable, Sumska continues to design new pieces, including dresses, shirts, and handbag straps.
Despite financial struggles, Sumska says she finds deep fulfillment in her work:
“There are more losses than profits. But you work for inspiration-when you see these beautiful women, when customers receive your dress and say: ‘Ms. Olha, when I hold this dress, I feel like I am in Ukraine.’”
This shows that her creations do more than replicate the beauty of Ukrainian painting-they forge an emotional connection with the women who buy them.
International Reach and Cultural Identity
Today, RIDNA garments are purchased by Ukrainian women living abroad, especially in Canada and the United States. Sumska emphasized that by sending dresses to these countries, she feels she is delivering a piece of home to her customers:
“I send a dress to Canada or America for our Ukrainian women. Do you realize that this is a little piece of our native Ukraine for them?”
The actress believes strongly in the future of Ukrainian design, stating: “I think Ukrainian designers are more relevant today than ever. Especially in such turbulent times. Our Ukrainian craftswomen will continue to conquer the world. I am sure of it.” Despite the difficulties and challenges, Sumska remains confident in her brand’s growth and its potential to influence global fashion.
Founded by Olga Sumska, RIDNA not only reflects Ukrainian culture through clothing but also builds an emotional bridge between Ukrainian women abroad and their homeland. Even amid war and financial hardship, Sumska stays committed to her mission, convinced that Ukrainian design holds great promise for international acclaim. This underscores the importance of supporting local brands during times of crisis, when cultural identity becomes especially precious.
