According to Главком: The Lake of Youth, located within the Bukovel resort, has received the international Blue Flag certification, confirming its adherence to high standards for water quality, safety, and environmental management. This achievement was announced by the resort’s shareholder, Zakhar Palytsia. As the largest artificial body of water in Ukraine, the lake draws tens of thousands of visitors each year.
About the Blue Flag Program
Operating in 53 countries worldwide, the Blue Flag program covers over 5,000 beaches, marinas, and tourism sites. To earn this distinction, a location must undergo annual evaluations based on 32 criteria grouped into four categories:
- Water quality
- Coastal zone management
- Safety and services
- Inclusivity
Zakhar Palytsia: 'The Blue Flag is not just an international accolade, but proof that Ukrainian tourist destinations can meet the highest global standards. For Bukovel, this is the result of systematic efforts to improve infrastructure quality, safety, and environmental responsibility.'
Spanning over six hectares, the Lake of Youth measures more than 750 meters in length and reaches depths of up to eight meters. During summer, the water warms to between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius. Nearly two kilometers of beach area have been developed around the lake, with free public access. However, for added comfort, paid services are available:
- Sun lounger rental – 300 UAH
- Set with lounger, mattress, and umbrella – from 450 UAH
- Four-person beach bed – from 1,200 UAH
- Bungalow – from 1,400 UAH per day
- One hour of catamaran riding – 300 UAH
- SUP board rental – from 250 UAH per hour

Palytsia also emphasized the importance of maintaining rigorous environmental standards: 'The Lake of Youth is Ukraine’s largest artificial reservoir and a key summer attraction for the resort. That’s why it is crucial for us to uphold high environmental standards, as they directly impact people’s safety.'
In this way, the Bukovel resort is shaping a new culture of leisure in the Carpathians and demonstrating that Ukrainian resorts can set an example for the rest of Europe.
Achieving Blue Flag certification for the Lake of Youth marks a significant milestone for Ukraine’s tourism infrastructure, as it confirms compliance with international benchmarks. This recognition is likely to boost Bukovel’s appeal among foreign tourists seeking safe and eco-friendly vacation spots. Additionally, the certification may encourage other Ukrainian resorts to upgrade their services and environmental practices, thereby advancing the country’s tourism sector.
