Retirees may receive summonses: who is entitled to deferment from mobilization
Ukrainian retirees may receive summonses, as reported by 'Hvylya'. According to the Law of Ukraine 'On Mobilization Preparation and Mobilization', during wartime, this applies to an increasing number of people in the country. Even retirees, who usually have the right to deferment or exemption from military service, are not completely protected from possible mobilization.
Who can be exempted from mobilization?
- Persons aged 60 and older are exempt from military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
- Retirees with disabilities, regardless of age, if there is documentary confirmation.
- Persons with serious illnesses or injuries that render them unfit for military service according to the decision of the military medical commission.
- Those who provide permanent care for disabled or incapacitated relatives.
- Retirees with significant merits to Ukraine, who have the corresponding status and supporting documents.
Former military personnel with military pensions have special status and can only be called to service in accordance with their professional military training. Their appointment to other positions against their will is not allowed by law.
Ukrainian retirees, despite certain deferments, may be mobilized if necessary. The law provides for a number of exceptions when individuals may be exempted from mobilization, for example, due to age, health status, or other circumstances. It is also noted that former military personnel with military pensions have a special status that limits their recruitment to military service. Today, the relevance of these issues is especially high, as Ukraine is preparing for mobilization in case of threats to national security.
Ukrainian retirees may be mobilized if necessary, although there are certain categories of individuals who may be exempted from mobilization according to the law. Among such categories are retirees with disabilities, former military personnel with military pensions, and those who provide care for incapacitated relatives. The law provides for careful consideration of circumstances during the potential mobilization of national resources in case of threats to the security of the country.
