Ukraine Weather: Frost and Snow to Persist Until February 22, Followed by a Sharp Warm-Up
Ukraine Weather Forecast Through February 22
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukraine's weather in the coming days will be dominated by frost, snowfall, and icy conditions, a pattern expected to last until February 22. A significant warming trend will arrive on February 23, bringing a major shift in conditions. This forecast was provided by Natalia Ptukha, a meteorologist at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center.
No sharp temperature swings are expected in Ukraine until February 22. Nighttime temperatures will remain consistently below freezing. An active cyclone moving from the southwest to the northeast will bring moderate, and in some regions significant, snowfall, particularly in northern and central areas. Meanwhile, the southeastern part of the country will experience relatively higher temperatures. This cyclone will leave Ukrainian territory on February 19, and a new atmospheric front will move in from the west on February 20, bringing renewed snow to western, northern, and parts of central regions.
Weather Changes After February 22
Between February 21 and 22, atmospheric pressure will begin to rise and the sky will clear. The lack of cloud cover will lead to intense cooling of the air, causing nighttime frosts on February 21-22 to intensify sharply. However, starting February 23, warmer air masses will begin to arrive, initiating a trend toward weaker frosts and a transition to above-zero daytime temperatures, primarily in the western and southern regions.
Specifically, the southeastern part of the country is expected to see above-zero temperatures both day and night. Precipitation in this region may be mixed, including rain and wet snow, with a possibility of icy glaze forming.
Ukraine's weather, influenced by cyclones and atmospheric fronts, will be changeable over the coming days. This period of frost and snowfall, which may lead to travel disruptions and hazardous icy conditions, will be followed by a gradual warming trend that could impact agriculture and daily life. These shifting conditions should be considered when planning activities for the near future, especially in regions anticipating heavy precipitation. This forecast is particularly relevant for a country where winter weather can significantly affect infrastructure and energy supplies.
