The Position of the Slovak President on Military Assistance to Ukraine

According to ХВИЛЯ: The President of Slovakia, Peter Pellegrini, has opposed the use of European Union funds for purchasing weapons for Ukraine, considering that this does not bring the end of hostilities closer. In his interview with the STVR channel, Pellegrini emphasized that such infusions could reach 'tens or hundreds of billions' and considers them ineffective in the context of the peace process.

Pellegrini called on Europe to 'accelerate and support the actions of the United States' in resolving the conflict, but stressed the need to preserve EU resources for more important post-war needs. He noted that

large-scale EU resources are better reserved for post-war needs

, pointing out that it is better to use these funds to support the residents of Ukraine.

Discussion in Europe on Financial Assistance

These statements by the Slovak president occur against the backdrop of Hungary blocking the European Union's decision on issuing bonds that could be used to finance military aid to Ukraine. Pellegrini believes that

the better and more effective use of money for the residents of Ukraine

would be investing in humanitarian and social programs that could contribute to the stabilization of the country in the future.

Pellegrini's position reflects the growing debate in Europe regarding the role of financial assistance in the military conflict and the further reconstruction of Ukraine. His emphasis on humanitarian aspects may indicate an attempt to focus on long-term solutions for regional stability, despite current challenges. This situation underscores the importance of coordination between EU countries and the US in the context of supporting Ukraine, as well as the need to balance military and social investments in response to the conflict.
