Space Station Captures Dramatic Footage of Kyiv Under Missile Attack

Kyiv under attack: video from ISS
Космічна станція зняла епічні кадри Києва в умовах ракетної загрози.

Unique Timelapse from the International Space Station

According to ХВИЛЯ: A remarkable timelapse video, captured from the International Space Station, shows a missile attack on Kyiv during the night of December 26-27. The footage, compiled from 3,300 photographs taken by Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui, reveals the assault against the backdrop of a dark sky. Published on the YouTube channel AstronautiCAST, the video compresses a 33-minute period, sped up six times.

The recording was made from an altitude of roughly 400 kilometers above Earth. According to the Telegram channel Alpha Centauri, the Russian attack involved:

  • 10 ballistic missiles (Iskander-M, Kinzhal)
  • 30 cruise missiles (Kh-101, Iskander-K, Kh-22)

Astronauts who photograph Earth typically use the Cupola module for such observations. This orbital vantage point provides a unique, wide-angle perspective on terrestrial events.

A comment on the AstronautiCAST video notes that the flashes around Kyiv are not consistent with natural phenomena like lightning or meteors; the sight is described as both extraordinary and horrifying.

This video serves as crucial evidence of the ongoing war's impact in Ukraine, highlighting the dangers faced by civilians. Visual documentation of missile strikes from space not only records these events but also draws global attention to the situation, potentially influencing the international response to the conflict.
