Late in the evening on October 4, the airspace over the airport in Vilnius was temporarily closed due to a possible presence of a balloon nearby. Flights of some aircraft were redirected to other airports, such as Kaunas and Riga.
Airport representatives reported that the situation is changing rapidly, and they are currently investigating the reasons for the incident. The airspace remains closed until further notice.
One of the passengers on the flight from Dublin to Vilnius said that their plane was redirected to Riga, but the pilot planned to return to Vilnius if permission to land was received.
Recently, the airport in Vilnius has become the site of similar incidents involving drones and unidentified flying objects. Therefore, the authorities are responding quickly and taking appropriate measures to ensure safety at the airport.
