Sumy and Kharkiv Are Beyond Russia’s Grasp, Says Ukrainian Official Kovalenko
Andriy Kovalenko’s Assessment of Front-Line Developments
According to Главком: Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, has stated that Russia lacks the necessary forces to capture major regional capitals like Sumy or Kharkiv. Despite Moscow’s attempts to intensify pressure along the front, Ukrainian defenses are effectively neutralizing these efforts, he explained.
“The enemy can dream of seizing all of Ukraine, but our resistance is working. Russian casualties are heavy, and they simply do not have enough troops to take regional centers such as Sumy or Kharkiv.” – Andriy Kovalenko
Belarus Military Drills and Russia’s Information Campaign
Kovalenko also addressed military exercises that began on May 18 in Belarus. While Belarusian forces are training to deploy Russian tactical nuclear weapons, he noted that no troop movements or military equipment have been detected near Ukraine’s border. “Yes, they are trying to ramp up pressure at the front, but our effective countermeasures-inflicting heavy losses-will prevent any worst-case scenarios,” he added.
He further emphasized that Russia essentially controls the Belarusian military and is leveraging the nuclear weapons topic for propaganda purposes. “The Russians can plan whatever they like. Their propagandist Solovyov even talks about marching to Berlin. But in reality, that would only happen if they were muzzled and in a cage,” Kovalenko said, accusing Moscow of twisting the narrative to portray itself as the victim rather than the aggressor. “They are trying to recast themselves from aggressor into victim-that’s their pattern in everything,” he concluded.
Kovalenko’s remarks underscore the ongoing military tension on Ukraine’s front lines and Belarus’s strategic role in the conflict. It is worth noting that the information war remains a critical arena, as Russia seeks to shape global perceptions by presenting its actions as defensive and forced. The situation on and around the battlefield continues to evolve, demanding close monitoring by the international community.
As the situation on the front lines remains tense, the strategic implications of Russia's influence over Belarus's military become increasingly significant. The joint military drills and the potential deployment of nuclear capabilities highlight the ongoing geopolitical maneuvering that could impact the stability of the region and Ukraine's defenses.
