Attack at the Ukraine-Moldova Border Crossing

According to УНІАН — Туризм: On October 5, a Russian strike targeted the international border checkpoint near 'Palanka' on the Ukraine-Moldova border. The attack resulted in injuries to a Moldovan border officer and forced the temporary closure of the crossing.

Around 09:38, a shell landed close to the checkpoint and, after bouncing off the ground, struck a passenger bus waiting near the barrier. This explosion caused minor injuries to one Moldovan Border Police officer. No other casualties have been reported.

Response Measures and Public Advisory

Due to safety concerns, authorities suspended operations at the 'Palanka' (Moldova) – 'Mayaky-Udobne' (Ukraine) border crossing. Moldovan Border Police and Customs officials are closely monitoring the situation and remain in contact with their Ukrainian counterparts.

The public is advised to use alternative crossings, particularly the nearby 'Starokozache-Tudora' checkpoint. It’s important to note that on September 9, Russian drones attacked the 'Starokozache' international crossing on the Moldova border, causing fires that killed two civilians and injured several others. This ongoing pattern raises serious concerns about border security.

This incident highlights escalating tensions along the Ukraine-Moldova frontier and underscores the dangers posed by Russian military actions in the area. Given previous attacks, including the bombardment of 'Starokozache', ensuring the safety and stability of border regions remains a critical priority for both Moldova and Ukraine. Both governments must enhance protective measures to safeguard civilians and maintain order in these vulnerable zones.

In light of the increasing hostilities in the region, including recent incidents involving drone breaches, the situation at the Ukraine-Moldova border continues to deteriorate. This escalation emphasizes the urgent need for enhanced security measures.
