Heavy rains in South Korea: casualties and missing persons (photo)
In South Korea, due to heavy rains and landslides that began four days ago, at least 10 people have died, and another nine are missing. This information is reported by 'Glavkom' referring to Yonhap.
In particular, the most victims – six dead and seven missing – are in the Sanchon area. Other tragedies occurred in Osan, Gyeonggi Province; Sosan, South Chungcheong Province; and Dandjyini, South Chungcheong. Two of the nine missing were reported missing in the city of Gwangju.
Search and rescue operations continue in the Sanchon area, so the number of casualties may increase. A total of 58 people have been rescued in this area.
Consequences of the rains
The rains hit the country on Wednesday, leading to 1920 instances of road flooding, soil loss, and damage to public facilities, as well as 2234 other cases of private property damage, such as buildings and agricultural land.
A total of 12,921 people have found shelter in 14 major cities and provinces. Additional heavy rains are expected in the metropolitan area and Gangwon Province.
