Trials for a New Counter-Drone System

According to Главком: The United States is currently testing a new mobile counter-drone system in Ukraine, known as the Denied Area Sprinter-Hellfire (DASH). This system is a modified version of the Tempest air defense missile complex developed by the defense contractor V2X. DASH was first introduced to the arms market in the autumn of 2023. Two Tempest systems are already operational in Ukraine, having arrived in early March 2024. This testing phase is part of a broader effort to adapt and deploy advanced defensive technologies in response to the extensive use of drones in the conflict.

Plans for Additional System Deliveries

The U.S. Marine Corps intends to sign a contract with the supplier V2X for the AGM-114 Hellfire counter-drone system. The Marines plan to purchase at least 50 DASH complexes. The first two systems are scheduled for delivery by May 30, 2024, with the remaining 48 to be delivered no later than December 2024. The complex will be equipped with AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, which are expected to significantly enhance its effectiveness against unmanned aerial threats.

In a related development, Ukraine and the U.S. have agreed to expedite the delivery of missiles for the Patriot air defense system. Representatives from Raytheon have confirmed their readiness to accelerate these missile shipments through direct contracts and international support mechanisms. Furthermore, Norway has supplied Ukraine with a significant number of missiles for the NASAMS air defense systems, further strengthening Ukrainian capabilities to counter aerial threats.

These developments highlight an intensification of military technology cooperation between Ukraine and the United States, representing a crucial step in bolstering Ukraine's defensive capacity.

The deployment of cutting-edge air defense systems like DASH, coupled with the accelerated supply of missiles for existing platforms, underscores the concerted efforts of allies to address the growing threat posed by drones and other aerial assets. This support could substantially impact the dynamics of the conflict and enhance Ukraine's security.
