Government's Education Priorities

According to Кабмін: At the 'Education of New Ukraine 2.0' conference held in Kyiv, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko laid out the government's key objectives for advancing the country’s education sector. These priorities are designed to address both immediate wartime challenges and long-term development goals. The main tasks include:

  • establishing safe learning environments within Ukraine;
  • modernizing school and university facilities;
  • constructing underground schools to protect students during attacks;
  • building cutting-edge STEM laboratories.

The government is also focusing on upgrading vocational and technical institutions, providing free meals for all schoolchildren, and expanding scholarship and exchange programs for university students. Svyrydenko stressed the critical role of high-quality education for Ukrainian youth, stating:

'Young Ukrainians must have every opportunity to fulfill their potential here in Ukraine. So that each person can choose their own path and become who they wish to be. A modern, high-quality education is the key foundation for this.' Yulia Svyrydenko

She added, 'This is about changes that are already happening and that we will continue to scale up,' emphasizing that 'young people should not have to postpone their dreams and aspirations because of the war. They must study, grow, and build a future in Ukraine.' A top priority for officials remains creating the best possible conditions for students in Ukraine, which is intended to serve as the bedrock for the education system's continued evolution.

Investing in Educational Infrastructure

Svyrydenko's announcements reflect the government's ongoing efforts to sustain education amid the pressures of war. The focus on infrastructure investment and support programs for pupils and students could have a major impact on the future of Ukraine’s youth. If successfully implemented, these initiatives may not only advance education but also aid the country’s broader recovery, helping to attract young professionals back and enabling them to build their careers in Ukraine.
