Global Stainless Steel Output Climbs in 2025, While Ukraine's Production Declines
Worldwide Stainless Steel Production in 2025
According to Главком: Global production of stainless steel reached 64.2 million tons in 2025, marking a 2.1% increase from the previous year. According to the World Stainless Association, China was the primary driver of this growth, manufacturing 40.87 million tons, which accounts for 63.7% of the world's total output. China's own production saw a year-on-year rise of 3.6%.
Production in Other Nations
Across Asia as a whole, stainless steel output hit 55.3 million tons in 2025, representing a 2.7% growth. The United States produced 2.1 million tons, a significant 7.6% increase compared to 2024. In contrast, Ukraine's production fell from 7.57 million tons in 2024 to 7.41 million tons in 2025, indicating a contraction in the country's steelmaking volumes. Stainless steel is a critical material for construction, manufacturing, and consumer goods, making these production shifts economically significant.
The global rise in stainless steel output, particularly in China, reflects broader trends of industrial recovery in the post-pandemic era. However, the decline in Ukraine's production may point to underlying economic challenges or reduced domestic demand for the product. Monitoring these industry changes remains crucial, as they have the potential to impact global markets and the economic landscape of the region.
