The EU will lose a million workers annually: how will this impact the economy

Migration to save some EU countries
Втрата трудових ресурсів в ЄС: наслідки для економіки регіону.

According to glavcom.ua: The European Union is experiencing a prolonged demographic decline. According to forecasts, the population could decrease by 23% by 2075 and by 34% by 2100, which may seriously undermine the economy of the bloc.

The most relevant consequence of this decline is the labor shortage. Experts predict that by 2050, the EU will lose about 1 million workers annually, and migration may become a key factor in filling this gap.

According to a report by the European Commission, if the trend of declining labor force continues at the same rate, this figure could decrease by 20.2% by 2070.

Italy and Spain expect to lose more than half of their populations by 2100, while other EU countries are also not insulated from serious declines. At the same time, EU enlargement may help attract young populations, but it will not fully resolve the issue of demographic decline; it will only provide some motivation to combat this phenomenon.

Europe is facing a demographic decline that threatens its economy and society. The loss of the labor force due to population decline is becoming a serious challenge that can be mitigated through migration and the expansion of the European Union, but it will not solve the problem entirely.
