Turkey Plans to Join the Top Five in Rare Earth Element Extraction: Details

Metallurgy in Turkey: Rare Earth Elements
Туреччина прагне стати лідером у видобутку рідкісноземельних елементів: нові перспективи.

According to hvylya.net: President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the country's intention to become one of the leaders in the extraction of rare earth elements following the discovery of large deposits in the province of Eskişehir. These elements are used in electronics, electric vehicles, renewable energy, and the defense industry.

'10 out of 17 types of rare elements were found in the Baylikova area, totaling about 12.5 million tons of rare earth element oxides,' Erdoğan emphasized.

The results of geological surveys showed that there are deposits with a volume of 694 million tons, which also contain barite and fluorite. The Turkish leader emphasized a national approach to resource extraction and refused to hand over the deposits to other countries.

Turkey is Seeking Technological Partnerships but is Unwilling to Lose Control Over the Deposit

While Turkey is open to cooperation in the field of rare elements, Erdoğan noted that countries and companies with experience in this area are reluctant to share it. The Turkish authorities are currently negotiating with specialists from countries with developed technological sectors, but do not plan to hand over control over the deposits.

'I want to emphasize: the transfer of the rare earth element deposit in Baylikova to any country is not considered,' the President of Turkey stressed.

There is a growing demand for rare earth elements globally, which are used in many industries. Turkey is betting on the development of this direction, increasing its role in the global market and is not ready to yield control over its own deposits of these important resources.
