Dnipro to Raise Speed Limit to 70 km/h on Key Routes: Locations and Dates
Speed Limit Adjustments in Dnipro
According to Главком: On specific road sections in Dnipro, the legal speed limit will be raised to 70 km/h for a period from April 1 to November 1, 2026. This announcement, reported by 'Hlavkom' citing the Patrol Police, means traffic cameras in the affected zones will be recalibrated to enforce the new limit. This change is part of a broader effort to modernize traffic flow in the city, which is a major industrial hub in eastern Ukraine.
Road Sections with the New Speed Limit
The following stretches of road will see the increased maximum speed:
- Zavodska Naberezhna Street, excluding 200 meters on either side of the intersection with Akademika Pavlova Street;
- Sections from the slag dump exit to the bridge turnaround;
- Kaidatskyi Bridge, specifically excluding 50 meters on either side of uncontrolled pedestrian crossings near intersections with Fatimy Gafurovoi Street and Metrobudivska Street;
- Peremohy Naberezhna Street (from Yaruizhna Street to Kosmichna Street);
- Zaporizke Highway (from Shynna Street to Aeroportivska Street);
- Donetske Highway (from the intersection with Berezynska Street to the city limits);
- Sonachna Naberezhna Street (from the intersection with Liubarskoho Street to the Ust-Samarskyi Bridge, excluding 50-meter sections before uncontrolled pedestrian crossings);
- The Central and Kaidatskyi Bridges.
Fines for speeding will remain in effect. Exceeding the limit by more than 20 km/h will incur a fine of 340 UAH, while exceeding by more than 50 km/h will result in a 1,700 UAH penalty. In contrast, Kyiv will maintain its standard 50 km/h limit on all main roads during the same period, from April 1 to November 1. This regional policy difference highlights varying approaches to urban traffic management across Ukraine. Notably, over two thousand road accidents occurred in the Kyiv region in 2025 alone.
The speed limit increase in Dnipro is framed as an initiative by local authorities to improve road infrastructure and safety. Drivers are urged to familiarize themselves with the new rules to avoid penalties and contribute to safer roads for all users.
While Dnipro is set to increase speed limits on certain routes, it is worth noting that Kyiv has opted to keep its speed limit at 50 km/h on all major roads during the same timeframe. This contrasting approach to traffic regulations reflects the differing strategies cities are adopting to manage urban mobility effectively.
