Green Makeover Underway at Ivan Kotlyarevsky Park

According to Главком: Workers in Kyiv are racing to finish a major refresh of Ivan Kotlyarevsky Park, with plans to repair benches and plant thousands of new flowers before the week ends. The update was shared on the official Facebook page of Kyivzelenbud, the city’s green infrastructure authority.

Specialists from the Shevchenkivskyi district’s landscaping utility are busy crafting vibrant flower beds. The goal is to introduce up to 5,000 blooms of various species, including:

  • alternanthera
  • ageratum
  • catharanthus
  • cineraria

As part of the infrastructure upgrades, 11 benches have already been repaired and repainted, while 18 more are being prepped for renewal in the coming days. The park sits in a densely built-up area next to heavy traffic, making its greenery all the more crucial for local residents.

Capital’s Green Spaces

Beyond Kotlyarevsky Park, a tulip tree (Liriodendron) is now blooming on Amvrosiy Buchmy Boulevard in the Dnipro district. This tree is a close relative of the magnolia and boasts an ancient lineage-its ancestors spread across Eurasia during the Cretaceous period some 100 million years ago.

Among Kyiv’s greenest districts are Solomyansky and Sviatoshynsky, where greenery coverage reaches 51%. These figures highlight the city’s commitment to maintaining and expanding its urban forests and parks.

Upgrading parks and planting new greenery in Kyiv’s squares is a vital step toward improving quality of life, especially in areas with dense construction and heavy car traffic. These projects across the capital not only enhance aesthetics but also boost the ecological health of the urban environment. Preserving and expanding green zones remains key to creating comfortable, inviting spaces for Kyivites to relax.

In addition to the revitalization efforts at Kotlyarevsky Park, the city is also enhancing its green spaces elsewhere, such as the recent planting of a thousand hydrangeas along Lypky Boulevard. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enrich Kyiv's urban environment and provide residents with more beautiful and sustainable public areas.
