An Art Installation at the Motherland Monument

According to УНІАН — Туризм: On August 20, 2026, Kyiv hosted the debut of the audiovisual art installation "The Future Remembers," with the Motherland Monument lighting up for the occasion. Created to mark Ukraine's Independence Day, the work will be shown every evening from 21:00 to 23:00 until September 1. The project is by artist and lighting designer Mykola Kabluka.

Combining 3D graphics, light projection, music, and sound, the installation creates an immersive experience for visitors. Its benefactor is the Autostrada company, with additional support from the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War.

Why the Installation Matters

The event follows an earlier symbolic shift: in August 2023, the Soviet-era emblem on the monument was replaced with the Trident, Ukraine's small state coat of arms. That change was seen as reflecting major transformations in Ukraine's history and identity. Viktor Kovalchuk documented the occasion in photographs.

As part of Ukraine's wider cultural policy, "The Future Remembers" works to strengthen national identity and unity. Sustaining such projects underscores the power of art to renew historical memory and shape public awareness, particularly amid the challenges the country is dealing with today.

As the city embraces its cultural renaissance, the recent unveiling of the art installation highlights the ongoing transformation of Kyiv's historical landmarks.
