Kyiv Public Transport Fare to Rise to 30 UAH Starting July 15
New Fare Structure for Kyiv’s Municipal Transit Systems
According to Главком: Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has signed an order introducing updated fares for the city’s public transport. Starting July 15, 2026, a single trip on the metro, buses, trams, trolleybuses, and the funicular will cost 30 hryvnias. The directive, issued by the executive body of the Kyiv City Council (KMDA), will take effect on that date. This change marks a significant adjustment for residents who rely on municipal transit daily.
Economic Justification Behind the Fare Hike
The economically justified fare for 2026 stands at 64.60 UAH for the metro and 44.14 UAH for buses, trams, trolleybuses, and the funicular. The approved 30 UAH rate is based on actual costs from the previous year. City officials also turned down a petition urging them to freeze fares, signaling a firm commitment to the new pricing strategy. With this update, Kyiv’s monthly pass for municipal ground transport and the metro will rank fourth among European capitals, trailing only London, Amsterdam, and Stockholm. The decision has sparked debate among Kyivans, as it will directly impact household transportation expenses in the coming years.
The introduction of higher fares for Kyiv’s public transport reflects rising operational costs for transit infrastructure and the local government’s effort to align pricing with economic realities.
At the same time, the fare increase has stirred public frustration, as it places additional strain on household budgets, especially amid ongoing economic uncertainty. This move could fuel further discussions about the affordability of transit services in the capital.
The recent fare adjustment is not the only change in Kyiv’s public transport landscape. In addition to the new 30 UAH fare, residents will soon have access to a new single ticket priced at 60 hryvnias, which aims to streamline travel options and address the evolving needs of commuters. This development underscores the city's commitment to enhancing transit services while balancing economic pressures.
