Wreckage of Russian Gerber drone discovered on the Latvian coast
Wreckage of a Russian 'Gerber' drone was found on the beach in the Varvska region of the Ventspils area in western Latvia. This report was received from the Latvian Armed Forces and the country's Minister of Defense, Andris Sprudsa.
«Today, wreckage of the drone's tail was discovered on the beach. A bomb disposal group from the North Atlantic Air Forces is heading to the site for a detailed analysis of the object», the Latvian Armed Forces are quoted as saying.
The Minister of Defense clarified that no explosive elements were found in the wreckage. It is planned to contact the Polish government to check whether this fragment can be part of drones used by Russia during the attack on Poland on September 10.
Latvia takes measures to protect against drones
Following the attack of Russian drones on Poland, Latvia decided to close its airspace along the eastern border. The restrictions will be in place until September 18 as a precaution against similar incidents.
As a result of the attack on Ukraine on September 10, some drones crossed into Polish territory and were shot down. The Russian Ministry of Defense rejected accusations of plans to attack Poland, but Ukraine expressed willingness to help create a defense system against such threats.
Summary: In Latvia, wreckage of a Russian drone was found on the beach, prompting outrage and the implementation of restrictions on airspace along the border to protect against similar incidents following attacks on Poland and Ukraine. This clearly demonstrates the existing threat to the region and calls for further security measures.
