According to Главком: On April 2, the body of 87-year-old Colonel General Stanislav Petrov was discovered in Moscow. Authorities suspect suicide as the likely cause of death. His remains were found around 7:00 AM in an apartment located in the House on the Embankment. According to law enforcement, Petrov was seated on a kitchen chair with a pistol nearby.

Petrov served as the final commander of the Soviet Union's chemical defense forces and led Russia's Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Protection (RKhBZ) troops until 2001. He also worked as a research scientist at a military institute and served as editor-in-chief of the journal 'Bulletin of the RKhB Protection Forces.' Additionally, he was the chief researcher at the Federal State Budgetary Institution 27 Scientific Center, an organization sanctioned by the EU, US, UK, Switzerland, Ukraine, and Canada for its involvement in developing and deploying chemical agents within Russian military operations.

Death of Sergei Loiter

Separately, the death of 42-year-old Sergei Loiter, a former commercial director at Yandex, has been reported. He drowned while fishing on the Volga River near Volgograd. Loiter held the commercial director role at Yandex from 2022 to 2024 and spent his final two years working at Yango, the company's international division. Since the onset of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, at least 20 top executives have died under mysterious circumstances in Russia.
