The Ukrainian pension system needs changes

According to hvylya.net: The head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy, Danilo Getmantsev, stated that pension payments for certain categories of retirees need to be reviewed. In particular, he emphasized that judges' pensions cost the state as much as those for teachers and medical workers.

If we spend 440 million hryvnias per month on pensions for 4 thousand judges, then we spend the same amount on 120 thousand retirees among educators and medical workers. While a regular person must reach a work experience of 32 years to retire, judges only need 20 years in office, and prosecutors – 15 years.

Getmantsev stressed that judges and prosecutors have special retirement conditions, allowing them to receive pensions at the ages of 46 and 55, respectively. Moreover, the amount of pensions for these categories significantly exceeds the ordinary pensions of citizens.

While an ordinary person receives a pension averaging 30% of their earnings, and now even less than that, a prosecutor or judge receives 50-70% of their salary. Furthermore, while ordinary citizens’ pensions are simply indexed according to a formula that also needs improvement, special pensions are recalculated in connection with the increase in the financial support of certain officials.

Earlier, Ukrainians were informed about how not to be left without a pension.

Getmantsev called for a review of the pension payment system for certain categories of retirees, noting that there is a significant imbalance in the size of pensions for judges, prosecutors, and ordinary citizens, which requires adjustments and changes.
