In 2026, Poles feel most warmly towards Italians, Czechs, and Slovaks, while Ukrainians did not enter the top three in the sympathy rankings. This is evidenced by a survey conducted and released by the Public Opinion Research Center (CBOS). As noted by inPoland.

According to the research, Poles express the greatest affection towards Italians - 58% of respondents declared a positive attitude towards them. Next in the ranking are Czechs with 55% and Slovaks with 52%. The British received 49% positive ratings. In 2026, Ukrainians ranked fifth in terms of sympathy, which means they have fallen out of the top 3.

Polish attitudes towards other nations in 2026

The survey also recorded a high level of hostility towards certain nationalities. Traditionally, Russians received the most negative ratings - 74% of Poles expressed an unfriendly attitude towards them. High negative ratings are also observed for Belarusians and Roma, each having 46%.

Among the nations that have recorded an increase in hostility, analysts highlight:

  • Ukrainians

  • Jews

  • Americans.

At the same time, the level of sympathy towards these groups has decreased by several percentage points compared to the previous year.

How sentiments changed after the war broke out

CBOS notes that Polish attitudes towards most neighbors worsened in 2026. The exceptions were Slovaks and Germans, for whom a slight increase in sympathy was recorded. Ukrainians, who had a high level of trust and support after the beginning of the full-scale war, gradually lost some of their positive ratings.

Analysts link this trend to both the international situation and internal social moods in Poland. Overall, in 2026 negative ratings of attitudes towards other nations outweigh the positive ones.

Recall that Poles demand reparations from Germany for the damages caused by Nazi occupation during World War II. According to a CBOS survey, 63% of Poles support this demand, which is 5% more than two years ago.
