Ukrainian Celebrities in Dubai During Iranian Attack: How They Coped with the Crisis
The Situation in Dubai
According to Главком: Ukrainian performers, including singer and model Santa Dimopoulos, were in Dubai during the Iranian attack. She described the city's atmosphere, her actions, and feelings, also mentioning another singer, MamaRika, who witnessed the events. The incident highlights how regional conflicts can directly impact foreign nationals far from the front lines.
Santa Dimopoulos received many messages asking if she planned to leave the United Arab Emirates (UAE). For now, she remains in Dubai, even as some friends pack their bags while others continue their normal routines, visiting beaches. The singer noted that she experienced something similar at the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which has shaped her perception of the current situation. She expressed confidence in the UAE's security and has prepared emergency supplies of food and water.
“I received so many messages: 'Are you in Dubai?', 'Are you leaving?', 'Have you packed your bags yet?', and there I was in the morning with my daughter, drinking my matcha. I was thinking about how quickly one remembers their own mortality when the sky suddenly closes in. For me, Dubai has always represented absolute safety. A feeling that everything is under control. Yesterday, that illusion shattered,” Santa Dimopoulos shared about her experience.
The Ordeal of Ukrainian Artists
Ukrainian singer MamaRika was also in Dubai, stranded there with her son and unable to return to Ukraine. This was her first trip abroad for a vacation with her child in three years, but she now faces the harsh realities brought on by the attacks. MamaRika pointed out that Dubai lacks the bomb shelters and proper air defense systems that have become commonplace in Ukraine.
“I'm not a political scientist, but I am a person who has already woken up once to a new reality, in my native Ukraine. I think that's one reason why I'm not panicking. When you know what real instability sounds like, you simply stop panicking at every noise,” added Santa Dimopoulos.
The predicament of these Ukrainian artists in Dubai underscores the global ripple effects of the regional conflict. The Iranian attacks have caused alarm among foreigners who found themselves under threat. The reactions of Santa Dimopoulos and MamaRika show how their experience of war in Ukraine has shaped their perception and attitude toward risk, enabling them to remain calm amid uncertainty. This highlights the crucial role of psychological resilience in difficult situations faced by people worldwide.
