Ukrainian Drone 'General Cherry' Reaches Final Stage of Pentagon’s Billion-Dollar Program
Ukrainian Company Scores Big in U.S. Defense Initiative
According to Главком: The Ukrainian firm 'General Cherry' has advanced to the second round of the Pentagon’s Drone Dominance Program, run by the Defense Innovation Unit. With a total budget of $1.1 billion, the initiative aims to acquire roughly 30,000 drones in its first phase, costing $150 million. By 2027, the Pentagon plans to purchase over 200,000 unmanned aerial vehicles in total. This program represents a significant push by the U.S. military to integrate cutting-edge drone technology into its operations.
In the first phase, the fiber-optic Shrike 10 Fiber drone from SkyFall won top honors with a score of 99.3 out of 100. Ukrainian Defence Drones placed sixth with 72.9 points. General Cherry entered the competition with its 'Khmarynka' kamikaze drone, which can carry a payload of up to 7 kg and has a range of 50 km.
Yaroslav Gryshyn, a representative of General Cherry, stated: 'We entered this program as Ukraine’s top performer in strike efficiency.'
This achievement underscores the strong position of Ukrainian developers in the global drone market. Participation in the Drone Dominance Program could pave the way for deeper collaboration between Ukraine and the United States in unmanned systems technology.
Program Stages and the Edge of Ukrainian Designs
The Drone Dominance Program involves multiple rounds of selection and testing for small attack drones intended for the U.S. Army. The Pentagon has ramped up drone funding to record levels, allocating around $75 billion for unmanned systems and counter-drone measures. A key advantage for Ukrainian firms is the combat experience they have gained during the full-scale war against Russia, giving their designs a real-world edge.
General Cherry’s success in this program highlights the growing importance of Ukrainian technology in modern military contexts.
By taking part in international initiatives like Drone Dominance, Ukrainian companies can not only advance their own tech but also strengthen the country’s defense capabilities. Partnerships with American counterparts open new doors for Ukrainian innovation and could help bring advanced systems into service. As military threats intensify, such projects offer both economic benefits and strategic value for the nation.
As the Pentagon intensifies its focus on integrating advanced drone technologies, the collaboration between Ukraine and the U.S. is becoming increasingly significant. This partnership not only highlights the capabilities of Ukrainian firms but also reflects a broader trend where U.S. and Europe are rapidly embracing Ukrainian defense innovations. Such developments could further enhance the effectiveness of military operations and foster innovation in unmanned systems.
