The Ministry of Education introduces a 'zero course' for applicants

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine proposes a new mechanism for applicants who did not pass the national multi-subject test. This mechanism involves the introduction of a 'zero course' - a year of study at a higher educational institution without prior passing of the test. This was announced by the Minister of Education Oksen Lisovyi during the hour of questions in the Verkhovna Rada.

According to the minister, the new draft resolution provides for the possibility of admission to the 'zero course' not only in summer but also in additional campaigns, such as the 'winter' or 'spring' recruitment. This will allow applicants who were unable to pass the test for various reasons to prepare and take the test during the year. Thus, a fair distribution of state resources in the field of education will be ensured.

'This will allow to take in children who did not pass the test for various reasons: due to educational losses, studying abroad, or other circumstances. Throughout the year, they will have the opportunity to catch up on knowledge and take the NMT after completing the course. Thus, we do not violate the principle of fair distribution of state resources.'

- emphasized Lisovyi, also supporting the idea of the rector community.

Support for applicants in frontline territories

The minister also stated that he does not believe it is advisable to postpone the test in frontline territories. However, he advocates for increasing the regional coefficient for universities operating in such regions to support applicants and educational institutions functioning in difficult conditions.
